Fire Door Retainers

Fire doors play a vital role in saving lives and property by slowing the spread of fire and smoke.

At the same time, we want to retain easy access to all parts of the site, especially when equipment is being moved, or there is a high level of people movement. Opening and closing doors can be a hazard in themselves.

What often happens as a result is that people take inappropriate steps to make life easier. Very often our engineers come across fire doors that have been held open with wedges, waste paper baskets or fire extinguishers. This is not only dangerous, but also illegal and can result in fines.

So what’s the solution?

Door retainers are electronic devices that hold the fire door open, but are activated by the fire alarm to release, thereby allowing the door to close.

Door retainers can be ‘hard-wired’ or can be battery operated for independent use. They are easy to install and can be maintained as part of normal fire equipment servicing. We recommend Dorgard, which is
